Feeling anxious and helpless after reading the news, take a break and go for a long walk alone or in the company of a good friend, preferably in the woods or on a mountain. Or go for a cycle. The weird tightening around your heart will loosen. Your body will feel freedom in its self-directed course toward elsewhere. You might even find that lovely place, what Rilke called "the far-off, deeply-felt landscape"--that's the possibility of focused motion.
