Adrienne Rich died.
Here's a poem she wrote: "What Kind of Times Are These".
//
According to her obituary in the Irish Times, Rich was a socialist because, she said in 2005, "socialism represents moral value--the dignity and human rights of all citizens. That is, the resources of a society should be shared and the wealth redistributed as widely as possible." Her writing reflected her basic principles, which offered a guiding pattern... something I fear I lack, when I look at the events of my itinerant and wide-ranging past.
//
In the age when resources are fairly distributed in society, we will finally see the end of racism, xenophobia, homophobia, and gender-violence. Surely we should direct our energy toward the coming of such a time.
