I'm not very good at life-summaries. Life is hard to polish into neat sentences; it's messy and sprawling, the ugly-promising first draft of an epic novel, set in too many locations, with characters who come in and out, all the time. There's a little romance, a little tragedy, a little comedy. Sometimes the author just loses the plot. And, once in awhile, there are poetic fits, when you can glimpse the moon between the skyscrapers and smell the perfume of fruiting trees on the breeze. How can you convey all that in one letter?
