The last ten years have taught me how to let go of friendships, cities, brother, a marriage, homes, expectations of how life would proceed. I have learned all too well that the shape of my peace should not depend on documents, State approval, or even the goodwill of others. Peace is not a constant; it must form itself anew everyday. Release hurt when you can, hush the little noisy bird of desire, don't want more than what you have in the present. Persevere, yes, but do not pin your peace on the actions of others, your wishes regarding their behaviour toward yourself.
