“All stories culminate naturally in violence.” I used to retreat from the idea of violence, but all stories, as Margaret Atwood says, have wolves in them. There is always the threat of teeth, whether it is psychological or physical. There is always an old world or way-of-being that must be destroyed, even if it is for a worse or sorrier one. Blood must be shed. It’s how we know we are alive.
