A petrol station in town was robbed on Sunday. The man crossed the street and flagged down a car, and told the unsuspecting driver he would pay him a hundred euros to get him to the hospital in Sligo as his sister had been taken there after an accident. Others had seen the robber enter the car, and alerted gardai. During the trip, someone rang the driver and told him what had happened, and that his car was involved. The driver dropped off the robber at Harry's Bar and called the guards. When the guards checked out the bar, the driver was still there, enjoying a pint.

The countryside was quietly aflame this afternoon. I walked through the spruce plantation, the dark way marked by shining green ribbons of shamrock. The quietness is so complete, I could hear grass breaking as ewes chewed fields and it is startling to meet another walker.
